A UNIQUE ATMOSPHERE...

Having only five rooms, Estbek is distinct, boasting a unique mixture of Georgian charm. Our carefully designed rooms accentuate the traditional features and attention to detail is second to none.

At Estbek, we are proud to be at the forefront of the region’s accommodation, thanks to continuous improvements combined with an award winning restaurant and the backdrop of one of Yorkshire’s hidden gems. Our driving ambition is to create somewhere that we would love to stay, and this starts with the basics and continues through to the finishing touches that give the rooms the unmistakable ‘Estbek feel.’

Our main priority is to ensure that your stay is as memorable as possible and we do everything we can to make this happen. We guarantee that whether you are a returning customer, or if this is your first visit to Estbek and Sandsend, you will be impressed!

THE ROOMS

JANSZ - king-ensuite

Our largest and most airy room, you will instantly notice that ‘Jansz’ boasts beautiful views of the historic East Beck and Sandsend beach through a large Georgian window. All the quintessentially ‘Estbek’ features fill this room - wooden fittings, comfortable armchairs and a patchwork quilt alongside a mix of old charm and modern luxury.

Located on the first floor and at the front of the property, the large bedroom makes a perfectly relaxing retreat where you can enjoy all the room has to offer, after a busy day taking in the surroundings or as you prepare to join us for an evening in the restaurant. The ensuite bathroom is home to granite work tops, traditional style wooden panelling and a luxury power shower.

You can make the most of the rooms airy atmosphere by opening the windows in summer to feel a gentle sea breeze, or keeping the storms out in winter by tightly closing the traditional style shutters!

You may have noticed that ‘Jansz’ is the namesake of one of our most popular drinks in the restaurant, a luxurious sparkling Tasmanian wine, so why not go for a luxury upgrade and enjoy a bottle in your room?

As is standard for all of Estbek’s rooms, there is a complimentary guest pack, tea and coffee making facilities, and a flat screen TV with Sky FreeSat.

ALUM - king-ensuite

Stunning views through Georgian windows overlooking the East Beck, Sandsend beach and Mulgrave Woods await you in ‘Alum.’ Being one of our largest rooms, Alum is spacious, but above all, it is a comfortable and relaxing retreat from the charming chaos of Whitby’s historic streets.

Sit by the window, take in the views and unwind before getting ready to dine in our restaurant, where you will be served finely cooked local produce. Upon your return, you can close the shutters, which in winter keep the storms at bay or in summer, open the windows to benefit from a gentle sea breeze. Whilst you relax, you can enjoy the sound of the sea lapping the shore and the beck slowly winding along, exactly the same as 250 years ago when Estbek was built.

‘Alum’ is a reference to the buildings historic purpose as the alum mining office.

Turning your attention to the room itself, Alum boasts paintings by Local artist Linda Lupton and is fitted with light wooden furniture and a king-size wooden sleigh bed. The en suite room benefits from a luxury power shower which adds to the insurance that you will find Alum a pleasure to stay in.

As is standard for all of Estbek’s rooms, there is a complimentary guest pack, tea and coffee making facilities and a flat screen TV with Sky FreeSat.

FLORENCE - standard double-ensuite

Georgian charm fills this room, from the unique half height windows to the original ship’s timbers running throughout. ‘Florence’ is a room to step back from it all and enjoy what history created, while still benefiting from all the luxuries of our time.

At Estbek, we like to assure you of our attention to detail. Looking through the Yorkshire sash window, you will be greeted with a view of the East Beck, which in Old English was known as ‘Estbek’ - Estbek House being given its name as the last reference to the East Beck.

This double room is located on the second floor and is fitted with polished light wooden furniture, comfortable armchairs and a handmade patchwork quilt covering the bed. In the en suite shower room, you will find traditionally inspired fittings.

‘Flo’ is home to pictures by Andrea Bailey, a truly local artist once living in Sandsend. You will see why this is such a fitting picture of the ducks - a carbon copy of your view! But can you spot the rabbits? The room also boasts a sampler by Gill Casper (Flo’s daughter.) Throughout the building you can see further examples of her work, such as a sampler in the neighbouring room, Eva, and a large sampler as you walk through the private door to the accommodation.

As is standard for all of Estbek’s rooms, there is a complimentary guest pack, tea and coffee making facilities and a flat screen TV with Sky FreeSat.

EVA - standard double-ensuite

Upon opening the door to Eva, you will instantly be greeted with a light and airy room with bags of character and its own unique charm. Ideal for a one night stay either celebrating or just enjoying life! This room boasts a handmade patchwork quilt and light wooden fittings, giving it a traditional and comforting feel. Looking out of the window, you will see our kitchen garden, where you can often see our chefs gathering fresh produce for tonight’s menu.

During the summer months, you can open the windows and hear the sea lapping the beach, our keep the shutters tight closed in winter to keep the storm out! Either way, we are certain that you will find your stay relaxing and calm.

The standard double room is located on the top floor at the rear of the property. The en suite is fitted with a luxury power shower and is fitted with a tasteful mixture of traditional painted panelling, granite and polished timbers.

Eva is also home to pictures by David Morris - perfectly reflecting the restaurant’s theme. How about crab for starters, lobster for main and fortunes kippers for breakfast tomorrow?

As is standard for all of Estbek’s rooms, there is a complimentary guest pack, tea and coffee making facilities and a flat screen TV with Sky FreeSat.

NORA - twin -or- double ensuite with shower

Boasting a characterful and comfortable atmosphere, Nora is our only twin bedded room (single beds) but can also be used as a super-king sized double by linking the beds. This room is full of the Georgian charm you would expect and, like ‘Flo’, has original ship’s timbers showing, and a delightfully calming view of the beck through the half height window.

Located on the second floor and at the front of the property, the bedroom displays all the signature Estbek comforts, a patchwork quilt, light wooden fittings and a relaxing atmosphere. The ensuite luxury granite bathroom is fitted with a power shower and traditional style wood panelling.

So, whether it be after a day exploring the local area, after an evening with us in the restaurant or having just arrived, we are sure you will find ‘Nora’ a pleasant retreat.
