Ian Carmichael: "We've just discovered a splendid restaurant-with-rooms in Sandsend, Estbek House. It's a Georgian place done up in the modern style - but intimate, and realy careful cooking. My lobster and brown shrimp ravioli was sensational; or you can have a big slab of halibut with sauvignon blanc cream. Apparently the bedrooms are nice, too.

We came out to find ducks dabbling on the beck and a crescent moon reflecting in the bay: very glamorous, rarther like Turkey, my wife said. Which you dont say too often in North Yorkshire ..."

Paddy Burt stays at Estbek

On arriving, Estbek is just as it looks on its website ... everything works and has a cared-for look about it ... What intrigues me are the black napkins, each a work of art, folded to look like a dinner jacket.
